Home Security Sign: Helps to Deter Crime

Burglars tend to avoid homes with alarm systems fitted. For them it is just one more hurdle to overcome if they are to burgle your home. Many alarm systems provide a home security sign to be erected in the front yard, as well as stickers for the windows and doors that warn would-be intruders that an alarm is present.

Although it is known that some homes put up signs without having an alarm fitted, the burglar can never be sure if these are dummies, so often they don't risk it.

Most of these signs appear to have been provided by a professional alarm company, and most usually are, but there are some humorous ones designed to keep the intruder guessing.

For example, one such sign claims the house owner has a large protective snake several days a week, another that a handgun is always at hand.

Whatever signs may be displayed, a would-be burglar intent on gaining access to your home, may be prepared to take a chance, and if a window or door can be opened and no alarm is sounded they will either seize the opportunity to rob you, or return another day.

Of course you may have a silent alarm fitted which tips off the police and/or a security monitoring company, and the arrival of law enforcement would surprise them in their criminal endeavour and show that the sign was real.

Most Alarms Are Supplied With Signs

Whether you have an alarm system professionally fitted or fit it yourself, most alarm products are provided with a sign. Make sure that you erect it in a conspicuous location so that it can be easily noticed.

You can also erect dummy cameras and alarm horns either in addition to or instead of a security sign, and they would serve the same purpose. An intruder still has to judge whether they are real or not. Dummy cameras pointing at a front entrance have been known to persuade burglars to look elsewhere.

Installing a real alarm system is a better way to go, but if budget restraints limit your home security measures, then a home security sign will go someway to deterring  possible crime.
