Driveway Alarms
Driveway alarms provide surveillance of your driveway or pathways at a reasonable cost. They are inexpensive and
easy to install. They will detect activity in the area under surveillance and transmit a signal to a control
unit.
This in turn will emit an audible warning indoors, just like door chimes. Anyone approaching your drive, even an
innocent deliveryman, will have their presence known.
Driveway alarms will consist of a motion sensor - usually battery operated - installed in an appropriate
position outdoors and a receiver unit indoors. This usually requires mains power. The motion sensors need to be
installed with care, avoiding branches from trees or shrubs which could cause false triggering of the alarm,
as well as direct sunlight that could interfere with the effectiveness.
Driveway security
- Never leave vehicles unlocked, and/or with keys left in, either at the kerbside or on your driveway.
-
Don't leave valuables on show in a car. It is an invitation to a thief.
-
Similarly, don't leave personal papers on show in a car. They may have no value as such, but to an
identity thief they could be worth a lot more in potential ID fraud than any expensive laptop or CD
player you might leave on show.
-
If you have a garage, use it. When you habitually leave your vehicle on the driveway instead of garaging
it, you are effectively telling any would-be intruder who may be 'observing' your place, that you are
at home. Then when your vehicle is absent from the driveway, it is reasonable to asume you
are out. When you always garage your vehicle, an intruder can never be sure whether anyone is at
home.
Home Security Tip
If you leave keys in an unattended vehicle, and your house or business keys are on the same keyring,
you are putting more than your vehicle at risk of theft. Always lock your vehicle. |
