CCTV Glare
For CCTV to play its fullest part in a home security system,
it needs to be fully operational during the day and the
night.
Therefore, during the hours of darkness, it needs an
adequate amount of lighting in the area under surveillance.
There is little point in having a video recording of an
attempted intrusion, when the images on the video recording are
too dark to make out properly. Lighting is really important to
get the best out of your cctv installation.
One problem that can be encountered when installing lighting
for a camera based surveillance system, is that of cctv glare.
This comes about when there is too much contrast between the
light and dark areas in the cctv camera's range of vision.
This could be from light reflecting off a surface and
creating glare for the camera. It could also be from
incorrectly angled lighting that either in part, or completely,
shines at the camera and 'blinds' it. CCTV glare could also
come from an open lighted window
In some installations it may be prudent to have lighting
permanently switched on during the hours of darkness. More
generally, lighting would be activated through motion detectors
or sensors in the surveillance area.
The cctv lighting needs to:
- Illuminate fully and evenly, the area being
monitored
- Be securely located so that it cannot be tampered with
by anyone
- Be positioned so as not to aim direct light at the
camera lens, nor to create reflected light which could
create cctv glare
- Avoid becoming intrusive to owners of neighboring
properties.
Where professional cctv systems are being installed, special
filters might be added to the camera to ensure that light is
evenly distributed, making video footage more presentable.
Lighting and cctv glare are not an issue where infra red
cameras are being deployed,
CCTV Lens Repair
The quality of images being produced in a CCTV system will
depend in large part on the quality of the camera lens. CCTV
lens repair is essential if it becomes damaged or dirty in
normal operations.
The quality of the lens plays an important part in the
overall performance of the camera. It enables it to reproduce
images in high definition, thereby enhancing the quality of
surveillance.
